Nobility and Towns, Heraldic and Genealogical Aspects
Abstract:

The author examines regional monographs (especially dealing with the history of towns and communities), the number of which has significantly increased in contemporary historiography. The text is focused on the content, particularly the structure of these publications. The comparative aspect was especially utilized to point out the specifics of monographs written during the communist era. The author suggests several points for the future research. In regard to genealogical charts, he points out the need for observation of the family relationships of the former community owners, as they might have been close relatives despite having different surnames. If this is not taken into account, there might be an inaccurate portrayal of estate relations in particular regions. Proper attention should be also paid to sacral buildings. The author highlights the importance of heraldic and sphragistic research. He especially discusses sphragistics in detail when he emphasizes the multiple specifics of town seals and their informative value as a historical source.
