Familiar Bias? Anti-Jewish and Gender Stereotypes in German Cultural Practice and their Reflection in Slovak Literature of the 19th and 20th Centuries

The present study examines the transfer of the antisemitic and antifeminist stereotypes of the “pretty Jewess” and the “degenerate Jew” from the German linguistic and cultural sphere into Slovak literature in the 19th and 20th centuries. Using the methods of translation studies, the current research presents an interdisciplinary historical analysis of the images of difference in literature and partially film.

Criticism of National Life as a Political Issue in Koloman Banšell's Literary Work

Koloman Banšell‘s (1850 – 1887) literary beginnings are traditionally associated with the "revolt of sons against fathers", and with the rise of the new poetic generation. However, reflections on Banšell‘s work always mention his ideological and political affiliation with the opposition, liberal wing in the Slovak political life, with the so-called New Slovak School (Nová škola slovenská).
